Learning & Fundraising in Kingfishers

The class have been learning all about the Rainforest and were keen to do more to help the animals effected by deforestation. Two children from the class held their very on fundraising events at home with Bella White raising over £14 by selling dog biscuits to the dog walkers that walked past her house.

Tallulah Shteile raised over £37 by selling the eggs from the chickens in her garden! The class also decided to hold a fundraising event to showcase some of their great learning and to raise enough money to sponsor orphaned orangutans in Borneo. First of all they had a stone painting workshop with a Sussex-based artist Alice Mason. The children panted stones with abstract patterns inspired by the artist’s work or with rainforest animal designs. They also made tropical fruit salads. Their creations along with the fruit salads were sold as part of a class exhibition and rainforest fundraiser. In total they raised a fabulous £127.

Uckfield based charity International Animal Rescue visited the school today to receive the donation and were delighted with what the children had done. The children have now sponsored two orphaned orangutans Joyce and Monti. These animals had previously been badly treated and kept as pets and are now being rehabilitated and taught the skills they will need to be independent. The children are excited to receive regular updates on their progress and re-education in Borneo.

Well done Kingfishers!
