Peacocks Lewes Castle Trip

We had a wonderful time on our visit to Lewes Castle. It was fantastic to put our knowledge into action while also extending our learning in such an exciting setting. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and enjoyed every moment of our day. Everyone was their brave and kind self and should feel very proud – I am!

After a much-needed (and very much requested!) snack break, we eagerly began our scavenger hunt. We climbed many staircases to reach the top of the castle. We even compared it to climbing a mountain! Along the way, we spotted battlements, arrow slits, a gatehouse, a cannon and even the stocks. I must say the stocks seemed to be one of the highlights for the children. They loved coming up with different scenarios about how they had upset the king. When we finally reached the top, we admired the breathtaking views and even discovered a windmill. Showing great bravery like knights, we explored spiral staircases and had a go at defending the castle by pretending to use the arrow slits, before waving down to the people of Lewes below. We then enjoyed a well-deserved picnic feast, followed by dressing up, more exploring, another visit to the stocks, and a trip to the museum where we discovered fascinating artefacts and watched an engaging film.

What a marvellous and fun-filled day we have had!
