This Term and last, a few of our Year 3s and 4s have been working together to make some improvements to the pond area within the school grounds. This has not been an easy task but the children have all worked hard and shown some great teamwork to achieve clearing the space.
The first task was to remove any rubbish and lost PE equipment that had made its way into the pond. Next was the large task of removing the brambles! Armed with gloves and secateurs the children got stuck into the task of cutting them down.
As a group we discussed ways in which we could help to encourage more insect life to the pond – the outcome was to build a bug hotel. This was done by stacking a few pallets on top of each other. The children then filled the gaps in the pallets with sticks, tiles, bricks and other natural materials.
