Peacocks Planning Letter: Autumn Term 1/2 2024 - Mrs Kent

We have had a fantastic first two weeks at school, the children are so lovely and I are really looking forward to working with you all to give your children the best possible start to their school life. They have all settled into school so well and I am already very proud of them all.

For the next few weeks the children will be learning all of the school routines and rules and getting to know myself and each other. It is important for myself to learn each child’s individual characters in order to plan activities that are relevant to their development and so we will be asking the children over the next week to help us plan what activities they would like to see this term.

Our topics this term will be: ‘Good to be me’ and ‘Our wonderful World’.

If you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to come and speak with me after school or make an appointment via the office.

If you have any interests, occupations or skills that might be linked to our learning and you are happy to come in at some point this year and talk to the children please do let us know.

Many thanks,

Mrs Kent

Topic (linked to Geography/History)

We will be thinking about our families, who lives in our houses, where we live and our addresses. We will talk about our homes and how other people live in different homes. We will be looking at maps to see where Framfield School is and we will be discussing our community and who lives in it.

We will be looking at the timeline of how we have changed from a baby to now.

Writing

Our writing focus for the children this term is to learn and gain confidence using their phonics and use this knowledge within their reading and writing.

Reading

This year we are aiming to hear your child read at least 4 times a week but we need your help as well! We would like all children to read at home each night. This includes reading a book independently, listening to you read a book or reading with / to you or another family member. Reading should be fun and not a chore, if your child is tired or not keen, do not worry, leave if for the time being and try again later. Please record in your child’s reading record that they have read their school reading book.

RE

The first half of the term we will be thinking about God and learning about Harvest and in the second half we will be looking at the story of the first Christmas.

Homework

The children will be coming home with homework books on Friday. Homework will always be linked to the learning we do in class that week and gives you a chance to sit and talk with your child about their learning.

Phonics

We have started our new phonic programme – Monster Phonics. We have an exciting parent workshop for you to attend to know all about this new scheme. Please do not worry if you are unable to attend, the powerpoint will be added to our school website.

PE

Mathematical Development

This term we will be following the White Rose curriculum: We will focus on topics called ‘Just like me’, ‘It’s me 1,2,3!’ and ‘Light and Dark’ – each topic is taught over 3 weeks and has a number focus and suggested links to measure, shape and spatial thinking.

PE

Our P.E. lessons will take place on Monday morning with Wayne our outside coach and on Thursday morning with myself. Please make sure your child comes in their full P.E. kit for these days.

School Trips

As part of our topic we have an exciting trip organised to Lewes castle where we will have a few workshops to learn about living in a castle. More details to follow.

Wanted
