Peacock Class topic this term is ‘castles’. If this topic interests you, or you would like to come and talk to the children about any aspect of this topic then please come and see me. We welcome parents/carers into the classroom to show, demonstrate or talk to the children to enhance their learning. Below are some of the ideas and activities that your children will be taking part in as part of the Early Years and Year 1 curriculum.

Home Learning

Home learning is given out on Friday and is due in the following week. This is normally an extension of the learning we have been doing in class, to further understanding and provide discussion at home.

Please ensure that your child reads every night.

Mathematical Development

  • Count numbers reliably to 20.
  • Place numbers in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
  • Selects the correct numeral to represent numbers 1-20.
  • 2D and 3D shapes.

Examples of Topic Learning

  • Learning about our family (all about me).
  • Learning about our community/ our homes.
  • School trip to a castle.
  • Creating fact file sheets about castles.
  • Holding a class banquet.
  • Junk box modelling.

PE

Our PE sessions are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Could you please make sure your child has their full kit in school for these sessions.

Literacy Development

Daily phonics
Weekly Year 1 spellings
(linked with phonics)

  • Formation of letters.
  • Stories based on castles.
  • Writing fact sheets about castles.
  • Read the story of ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson.

Year 1s

The super peacocks will be going into Kingfishers class two afternoons a week. Wednesday for computer’s and Thursday for RE.
